According to Dwight Schrute, Konikotaka was orphaned at the age of 10 when both her parents were assassinated. Then she was taken in by a wealthy but very cruel businessman so she practiced Aikido in secret for years until she could avenge the death of her parents. She's also a survivor of monster rape.

Season 1[]

In a basketball game, Dwight wears a shirt depicting Konikotaka from the "World Anime Expo" in Philadelphia in 2002. ("Basketball") In a deleted talking head, he says that she is his perfect date. ("Hot Girl")

Season 4[]

Dwight uses an image of her as his IM avatar in a deleted scene from "Fun Run".

Amusing facts and trivia[]

  • Konikotaka, while being indicative of Dwight's nerdy and geek subculture interests, is a direct parody of western based anime cliches, specifically from the 90s from more niche adult series like Crying Freeman, Kite, and La Blue Girl that got western audiences further flabbergasted with the idea of adult animation.
  • Her sketchy composure, overly sensational background, and lack of mention of an originating series is indicative that she likely is an "original character" by Dwight, which was not uncommon to make by more artistically inclined anime fans from the late 1990s and early 2000s.
  • Of some note, NBC was one of the first American broadcasters who imported and hosted the earliest anime series in the 1960s, some being Speed Racer, Gigantor/Tetsujin 28, and Battle of the Planets/Gatchaman. Friends also had a frequent display of Speed Racer in its earliest series, which The Office appears to spiritually continue in its anime referencing.
  • The closest example of a more nuanced and realistic anime girl-like personality from an existent real life anime series would be Erin Hannon.
